Welcome

Griggs & Adler, P.C. combines a nationally recognized energy practice with a practice serving the needs of local clients.  The founding partners, John W. Griggs and Debra B. Adler, have more than fifty-five years combined experience in energy law, civil litigation, employment law, landlord tenant, alternative dispute resolution and general business law. The Firm has achieved the highest rating, AV, from Martindale-Hubbell, and has been listed in the Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers. Its philosophy is to provide top quality legal services at competitive rates by tailoring its services to the client's specific requirements. Founded in 1992, Griggs & Adler incorporated as a professional corporation under the laws of Virginia in 1996. The firm maintains offices in Reston, Virginia, a suburb of Washington, D.C. The Firm can be contacted by phone at (703)860-6315, and by email at griggsandadler@comcast.net.

Energy/Utility Regulation: The Firm's leading practice area, headed by John W. Griggs, is energy regulation.  Griggs & Adler, P.C. offers representation before regulatory commissions on matters involving oil pipelines, gas pipelines, electric utilities and energy facilities requiring licenses or certificates from regulatory commissions. The Firm's attorneys have represented shippers on oil pipelines, wholesale consumers of electric power, and state commissions protecting the public interest.  The Firm analyzes the client's needs and defines the most efficient approach to satisfying those needs. The major portion of the Firm's work in this area consists of practice before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) in Washington, D.C.  Judicial appeals of administrative agency decisions are an important part of the Firm's energy practice.  Griggs & Adler, with its smaller size and reduced overhead, offers clients a more efficient and cost effective approach to FERC practice than larger, more traditional law firms.

Civil Litigation: The Firm's civil litigation practice, supervised by Debra B. Adler, includes business torts, contracts, civil rights, employment laws, landlord-tenant, corporate directors liability, and personal injury.   The Firm has successfully represented clients in all phases of state and federal court litigation.  Local counsel services are available to out-of-area firms involved in D.C. or Virginia litigation.  The Firm's clients include large companies in complex litigation involving millions of dollars, and smaller companies and individuals with more modest claims.

Landlord Tenant: As part of its local practice, Griggs & Adler, P.C. serves landlords and tenants by drafting leases, conducting lease negotiations, and undertaking lease enforcement, and property management tasks. The goal of the leasing practice is to facilitate and implement business transactions relating to occupancy and to assist clients in avoiding legal problems that could lead to expensive litigation.

Small Business:  The Firm's small business practice assists clients with choice of entity and entity formation, employment law issues, and general business contracts.
